New Model Edsall: The authoritative Tom Edsall's immigration piece in the unaffordable, subscriber-only National Journal--

a) notes that, while the 2006 elections weren't a victory for anti-comprehensive forces, some swing-district Democrats like Tammy Duckworth were badly hurt by (Edsall says false) charges that they were soft on illegals. That's why Dem caucus chair Rahm Emanuel is insisting on 85 or 90 Republican votes in the House--to give Dems bipartisan cover;

b) "If Democrats saw this as a political winner, why aren't they talking more about it?"--anti-comprehensive Steven Camarota;

c) "Analysts in both parties" are trying to reassure paranoid swing-district Dems that

[m]ost voters who adamantly oppose illegal immigrants are Republicans.

Marquez vs. Pacquiao II: Marquez Training Camp Quotes

LOS ANGELES, CA (February 21)Fundamentally, it is Mexican champion Juan Manuel Mrquez's professionalism and dedication to his craft that makes him one of the best in the sport of boxing today. Mrquez, one of the last warriors of the great Aztec dynasty of modern boxing, seeks a place in the boxing history, has been proven to be among the elite level in the sport but he attributes his success both in and out of the ring to his tremendous work effort and although successful, still maintains his hunger for fame and glory that keeps him dedicated to his training and committed to his daily regime of hard work and training when preparing for a fight. "In the ring there is no such thing as an easy fight or a small challenge and I keep that in mind and base my philosophy on that when I am preparing for a fight.

Clinton and Obama begin what appears to be a protracted battle

I don't trust Obama, I think he's not what he's trying to appear to be. The Clinton's have their faults but I'm voting for Hillary because she has so much experience, she truly cares about the middle and lower class (how I hate that saying) AND I think she is the best person to get the economic situation under control and FINALLY get us all the health care we deserve. I cannot understand how the greatest (self proclaimed) country on earth cannot provide health care for its citizens. I think we should all be screaming from the sidewalks demanding health care now!! It's the number one cause of bankruptcy in the USA how unfair that looking after your health or the health of your loved ones could cost you your life savings. Kennendy endorsing Obama was actually a favor to Hillary ha ha. I can't stand that fat old blow hard.

Election Madness

His letters to me have always been angry, railing against our capitalist system for its failure to assure "life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness" for working people.

Just today, a letter came. To my relief it was not handwritten because he is now using e-mail: "Well, I'm writing to you today because there is a wretched situation in this country that I cannot abide and must say something about. I am so enraged about this mortgage crisis. That the majority of Americans must live their lives in perpetual debt, and so many are sinking beneath the load, has me so steamed. Damn, that makes me so mad, I can't tell you. . . . I did a security guard job today that involved watching over a house that had been foreclosed on and was up for auction. They held an open house, and I was there to watch over the place during this event.

McCain and Obama turn fire on each other

If anyone bothers to learn about the rise and fall of the political honeymoon of the just retired ex-President of South Korea, you will be astounded. President Roh was elected in 2002 by astonishing landslide. A relative new comer and novice administrator, Roh was supported mainly by enthusiastic young voters who were dying for "change" of all the old systems and old politics. Roh promised hope for change. They young supporters used all kinds of digital methods to urge each other to vote and spreading the message to all others to go out to vote. He won. The "conservatives" were shocked. He employed lots of so nicknamed "boy scouts" for his inner circle, all wide-eyed idealists who vowed to turn Korea upside down, inside out by trying to make changes. The result was miserable. Roh was even abandoned by his own ruling party which itself split into two different parties.
